Our Story
Full Spectrum Solar provides complete turn-key installation of solar electric systems for businesses, homeowners, public authorities, and community organizations in Madison, Waukesha, and Milwaukee.
Brothers and UW-Madison mechanical engineering alumni, Burke and Mark O’Neal, started Full Spectrum Solar in August 2002. Burke had recently returned from his position as a lead engineer with one of the largest California solar energy companies.
Together, they envisioned an environmentally friendly business installing only top quality photovoltaic systems, with unmatched customer service and a competitive price.
Today, Full Spectrum Solar is one of the most highly-credentialed solar energy contractors in the Midwest and has been featured on Wisconsin Public Radio twice.
Among our experienced staff, we have degreed mechanical and electrical engineers, with over 40 years of combined renewable energy experience between them. Our team includes master electricians, two with over 15 years of photovoltaic installation experience, journeyman-level electricians, NABCEP-Certified Installers, and solar-experienced roofers.
We are proud of our zero-energy-cost office and shop in Madison and our energy-efficient vehicles, including three electric vehicles. In early 2013, our office and shop was awarded an ENERGY STAR 100/100 rating. That’s the highest rating in Wisconsin; better than 99 percent of comparable buildings!
Our team has installed over 1,200 of the finest quality solar energy systems in southern WI. We’ve designed systems for homes, apartments, and a wide variety of businesses and non-profits.
Our most visible projects include Forest Edge Elementary School, Dane County Job Center, Willy Street Grocery Co-op, Troy Gardens Co-housing, and Holy Wisdom Monastery in Dane County; the Milwaukee Recycling Center in Milwaukee; Organic Valley Cooperative in La Farge; Evansville Community Pool in Evansville; and Dominican Eco-Justice Center in Racine.

Brent Janssen

With a degree in architecture and minor in civil engineering, Brent found his home in the construction world working at Full Spectrum Solar. Brent is someone who simply likes people and enjoys helping customers find how solar can meet their goals of saving on their energy bills and powering their lives with renewable energy. He has successfully designed and managed over 250 solar installations from homes and professional offices to warehouses and public facilities. Brent’s experience and wide background help him find efficient and creative solutions to any problem. At the end of the day, he finds satisfied customers and the environmental stewardship of solar to worth all the effort.
Ted Gundlach

Ted is an accomplished Commercial Project Manager with a proven record of delivering large-scale renewable energy initiatives. Over the course of their career, Ted has successfully managed over 125 solar projects, including 13 multifamily apartment developments and 4 healthcare facilities, totaling more than 2,000 kW of installed capacity. Known for fostering strong cross-functional collaboration, Ted works closely with engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery. Their data-driven approach and commitment to teamwork promote technical accuracy, operational efficiency, and long-term performance across all solar installations.

Nick Aikens

Greg Sanden

With over 25 years of engineering management experience, managing large electronics projects to completion, Greg Sanden brings a strong blend of people management, planning, and follow-through support to all project stakeholders. He is Six Sigma Black Belt certified, aligning with his lean process improvement approach to project work, but also highlighting his approach to ensuring the individual customers’ needs are met. Greg is driven by the people connections he makes as he highlights the many benefits of solar and supports his customers in adopting more sustainable energy for their budgets and the planet.
